A conversation with Augustin Ntare, who looks after GHI’s Kigali staff house.

Is there something about GHI you like apart from your daily work?

After arriving here, I experienced many things which are so good like conversing with my co-workers.

What have you learned from GHI?

I have learned a lot from talking to many people, meeting with people who are different from me, and living with them here at the staff house for a long time.

Why do you think that the GHI’s mission to end malnutrition is important?

First of all, it helps those children who are not growing properly. Secondly, the way GHI works, it is rare that vulnerable families are able to access such support.

What do you enjoy in your job?

I like my job because it allows me to meet many people who help me to learn English, and become my friends. I have friends here at the staff house.

 What is your favorite vegetables?

I like amaranth and cabbages.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I like to cook amaranth together with peanuts, and maize bread.

What do you like to do for fun apart from cooking?

I like to do sports like running, swimming, or traveling.

Is there any fun thing you would like your co-workers to know?

To see my colleagues happy makes me happy as well. Like when I see you smiling about what we are talking about, it makes me happy because I don’t like it when people are always quiet.

What is something that might not make you laugh, but makes others laugh?

I am happy when others are happy too. I do not make myself laugh, but other people can make me laugh. But I don’t think surprises are funny. Secondly, when I receive a gift I might act serious, but inside I feel very happy.

Is there anything else you would like to tell your co-workers or staff?

I would say that we should be friends among each other and love each other.
